From the 13th century collection of Latin and German clerical poetry, the Carmina Burana (#19) here is Fas et Nefas, a song about moral decay and how money rules the world (so 7 centuries ago). The Carmina Burana manuscript only has a single line of neumes indicating melody, but the 3 part song is also found in the Pluteus 29.1 manuscript with clearer musical notation. Performed by Daniel Shoskes on a 5 course gittern built by George Stevens, a 5 course medieval lute built by Travis Carey, and a 5 course citole built by Facundo Bordas . #citole #medievalmusic #gittern #carminaburana
