The advent of cremation becoming a forefront for burial in the future of the Philippines is a possibility that should not be overlooked as the world is collectively transitioning to the idea of cremation as its main form of interment. Cremation in itself is a solution to the pressing burial space issues here in the Philippines due to ever-increasing urban density but lacks the ritualistic approach that is fundamental to any burial practice. Rituals are in essence a coping mechanism for the bereaved as it provides solace and comfort for the mind. Cremation is in need of a ritualistic space to affix a transient connection of the dead while providing a process needed by a person to move on. In bringing emphasis to the ritual experience, there is a need to symbolically provide a spatial translation of Philippine funerary ritual in the context of cremation, by pandering to the human senses as cemetery structures are designed to incite contemplation for the living. The Philippines is at the rear of technological implementation in its structure, while the world is progressively adapting technology in its daily routine with cemeteries being no exception. The collective question now is how will Philippine funerary architecture be able to adapt burial rituals into cremation while implementing the human senses in enhancing the experience, and implementing technology as the world is slowly adapting them to its architectural functions.
