The Temple of Bateshwar Sthan is still popular among the local pilgrims. Patharghata literally means “rocky ghat” and is derived from the fact that the hill here projects into the river Ganga, which becomes ‘Uttarvahini’ with its isolated pile of granite rocks. The ancient ruins at the hills were first brought to notice by Buchanan. In 1879-80 Cunningham also visited and described the ruins. The hill is situated facing the river Ganges, just where the river resumes its easterly course and is about 12 kms north-east of Kahalgaon and 3 kms from the excavated remains of the Vikramshila University. कहीं आप ये तो नहीं सोच रहे कि ये इटली या श्रीलंका है... नहीं ये अपना बिहार है... जहां गुफा के अंदर हमने खोज निकाला नीले पानी का तालाब.... कहानी की शुरूआत होती है भागलपुर के विक्रमशिला से... हम पहुचे बटेश्वर स्थान... जहां की धार्मिक मान्यता तो सभी जानते हैं... लेकिन हम यहां पहुंचे थे इस खौफनाक गुफा को एक्सप्लोर करने... पूरी टीम यहां थी... दरअसल ये सुरंग ब्रिटिश इंडिया के समय में बनाई गई थी... जहां से चीनी मिट्टी की माइनिंग होती थी... लेकिन अब ये विरान हो चुकी है... हम जैसे जैसे अंदर जा रहे थे... समझ नहीं आ रहा था आगे क्या होगा... आखिर में हमें जो यहां मिला उसकी कल्पना नहीं थी... हमें मिला फ्रेश लाइम वाटर का तालाब जिसका रंग बिलकुल नीला था... अब कहेंगे ना...
