The Union Railroad is a industrial railroad owned by US Steel which services steel plants around the greater Pittsburgh area and in September of 2022 I was fortunate enough to catch railroad operations that used to be a common site but has died down tremendously in this country. 0:00 Edgar Thomson plant shifters SW1500's shift out molten steel cars, aka submarines, within the ET plant 5:16 Union 76 crew A three pack of Union MP15's take hot steel slab cars from ET to Irvin Works seen at West Mifflin and Dravosburg 7:30 Union 11 Crew A 5 pack of Union MP15's seen at East Pittsburgh 9:17 Union 76 Crew The same 3 pack of MP15's as the day before take another slab train to Irvin Works seen departing ET and at Dravosburg Tunnel. Note the fog evaporating as the train goes by at the tunnel due to the heat from the steel 16:54 Union 9 Crew A SW1500 and two MP15's take a loaded coke train from Irvin Works heading towards Duquesne 20:34 Union 76 Crew (again) Seen switching around the Irvin Works plant 22:20 Union 76 Crew The 3rd and final slab train I caught at Dravosburg consisted of the same 5 MP15's as the previous days 11 crew
