In this exclusive documentary, I take you on a journey like no other—through the heart of the Arbaeen pilgrimage, the largest annual gathering on Earth, with a special focus on the incredible tradition of offering free food to millions of participants. The journey begins in Tehran, Iran, where I join a local team preparing for their journey to Najaf, Iraq. We capture the meticulous process of loading supplies for their community-run food stand, or moukeb, in the holy city. Days later, I meet up with this team in Najaf to film the preparation of massive quantities of food for pilgrims, all offered for free. As we walk the 80-kilometer stretch from Najaf to Karbala—known as the Arbaeen pilgrimage route—I document various moukebs, all offering free meals, water, medical services, and more to anyone passing by. One notable stop is at the international moukeb run by the Al-Zahra Charity Institute, where I capture the diversity of pilgrims from around the world. I also interview Bryan, a pilgrim from Colorado, USA, who shares his unique perspective on this life-changing event. The documentary culminates in the holy city of Karbala, where we explore the sanctity of the shrines of Imam Hussein (a.s.) and his brother Abbas (a.s.). The powerful atmosphere, the hospitality of volunteers—both young and old—and the spirit of unity surrounding this 20-million-strong pilgrimage are fully captured. But one question lingers: Why is everything free? Why do millions of people dedicate their time and resources to serving complete strangers? What is Arbaeen? And who was Hussein (a.s.), the man whose sacrifice continues to inspire this remarkable event?
