Airbus MAVERICK Coming in at number 10 is a future concept planes that can reduce fuel consumption by 20%. The Maverick or Airbus Model Aircraft for Validation and Experimentation of Robust Innovative Controls is certainly one to look out for. MAVERICK features a unique aircraft design that has never been seen in the history of air travel. With a giant wing with no fuselage, this plane looks like something from the distant future. Airbus revealed the innovative design at the Singapore Airshow in 2020. It's reported to reduce fuel consumption by up to 20%. That's not all. They also claim that this radical new design may be all we need to make airplane interiors roomier, by reducing engine placement and increasing interior space 9. Boeing Transonic Truss-Braced Wing There are quite a number of airplanes setting new boundaries on what the planes of the future would look like. None of them though come close to The Boeing Transonic Truss-Braced Wing (TTBW) airliner. When it was initially conceived in 2010, it seemed like it would never see the light of day, but it's been a decade since then, and the design is now the final stage of development. 8. Hero Zero Let's face it; Air travel is one of the biggest causes of climate change in recent years. The cost of flying is taking its toll on the planet but what can we do. There's some good news, though, a new airplane concept aims to allow travellers to fly without the guilt. Called the Hero Zero Emissions Airplane, this airplane developed by Joe Doucet, has been dubbed the "Tesla of the Skies". I mean, what screams futuristic more than a plane than an electric aircraft. Yeah, you heard, right. Soon, we might all be travelling in airplanes powered by batteries and electric generators. Trading jet engines for propellers and traditional fuel for electric power, the plane is a possible sustainable solution for short-haul flying. By using batteries and electric generators to power everything, including its three rear-mounted propellers, the Hero zero-emission airplane can fly you across the world without depositing harmful carbon emissions in the atmosphere. That's a win for us and Mother Nature. 7. Flying V What would you say if you were told to sit on the wings of a flying plane? I'll take a wild guess and say- Heck, NO. Well, this unique aircraft is trying to put people on the wings of a flying plane. Yet another future transportation plane, the flying V is a concept plane developed by KLM to do one and one thing only – put people on its wing. Instead of a conventional airplane design, the flying V is just a pair of fat wings joined in a V. Passengers would sit towards the front while the cargo stays closer to the wingtips. Originally the brainchild of a graduate student in Technical University of Berlin, The flying V, much like Airbus' MAVERICK, was developed to cut back on fuel consumption over long distances. Designers hope to reduce the weight of the aircraft as well as improve the aerodynamics 6. EADS Voltaire Like I said before, there are only a few environmental sins worse than air travel. A few years ago, Friends of the Earth declared aviation "the world's fastest-growing source of greenhouse gases." A report released in 2008 showed that airlines might pour 1.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by 2025. On the one hand, many airlines have pumped a huge load of money into developing airliner designs that hope to solve the problem of reducing fuel consumption and cutting flight times. 5. Enter The EADS VoltAir Plane. Another plane that's straight of a sci-fi movie, this all-electric passenger airplane is not only sleek and sustainable. It could help revolutionize air travel forever. Here's the idea – The plane would be fully powered by batteries that can be easily swapped with pre-charged ones as soon as the plane lands. Sounds easy enough? Maybe not but that's not stopping EADS. By their accounts, the voltair could be taking to the skies as soon as 2035.
