Today’s episode is all about one big question… Can a freestanding deep soaker tub be made to work in a standard alcove shower setup? My sister scored this Maxx deep soaker tub for about $150 — even though tubs like this normally sell for around $1,100. Incredible deal… but there’s a catch: this tub was never designed to be a shower/tub combo, and the outside shape makes a normal surround a real challenge. In this video we: • Finish the bathroom floor with LVP so it runs underneath the tub (no exposed subfloor) • Get the tub support plan in place (ledger + fit-up) • Test fit and start solving the “how do we build a surround around this?” problem • Break down the strategy for the future surround (cement board + waterproofing + tile plan later) And while the tub challenge is happening, we’ve also got progress moving forward in the house: • Betty starts painting the living room/kitchen area • Mom begins restoring the original doors so we can save money and still make them look brand new Next episode: we’ll keep pushing this tub project forward — build-out details, cement board, and sealing/waterproofing so water only goes where it’s supposed to. 👇 QUESTION FOR YOU: Have you ever installed (or seen) a freestanding tub used like an alcove tub? What waterproofing approach would you trust most for the surround? If you’re new here, consider subscribing and come back next week — this is where we find out if this $150 tub deal was genius… or a mistake. As always… tell yourself: I can fix that.
