The Australian National Values in 2022 study by Havas Australia and YouGov found Australians do not prioritise mateship as much as other values. “The data today suggested that the younger you go, then mateship as a priority starts to fall down the list,” Mr Murray said. “The concept of mateship is not dying – it might express itself in different ways, with different language, but the fundamentals of kindness, of respect, of taking care of each other … that’s really important.”
