The Quicksilver SuperChair at Breckenridge Colorado is a six-person detachable chairlift that services the lower portion of Peak 9. It is one out of five six passenger chairlifts at the resort, and has two loading ques. When installed, it replaced the world's first ever high-speed quad of the same name in 1999. The original quad that ran previously was built in 1981, and has a maximum line speed of 787 feet per minute, or 3.9 meters per second. It was to date the only Doppelmayr detachable ever built at Breckenridge, and was a flagship lift at the resort for many years. The current chairlift (formerly known as the Quicksilver Super6), replaces the old quad on a different alignment, and is the only lift at Breckenridge to have two loading ques, or "double loading" at the bottom terminal. The difference between this setup as opposed to a Chondola lift (or Gondola) is that skiers and riders keep their equipment on at all times, and move around the terminal contour after sitting down. Quicksilver has a bottom terminal setup like this for a couple reasons, but the main reason is so skiers and riders load safely and efficiently at peak times. Although Quicksilver does a great job at getting people out of the base area, it still is not efficient in getting people loaded properly. Because of the tight space and steep loading ramp, (combined with the high beginner skier traffic) miss-loads and off-loads are still common. The day I rode, the lift was traveling way below its designed speed of 5.5 meters per second, and had multiple slows and stops. Breckenridge lift ops made the decision to make one of the two loading ques dedicated to ski school, so now there is only one que to funnel into during peak times. I hope this change is not permanent, but it appears it is.
