Happy Birthday to the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland! 53 years ago today, one of if not the most popular, and my second favorite Disneyland attraction ever built opened, The Haunted Mansion, August 9, 1969. This is another revised recreation of the original 1969 Changing Portraits. These are the original four portraits (Medusa, Werecat Lady, Flying Dutchman, and Black Prince) with a revised animation I made which is the original lightning effect which was only used for the first several years, before being removed sometime between the mid 70's and early 80's when they installed the slow morph, and at the same time installed the April-December portrait. But all is not lost, because in the 2006 refurbishment, although they removed April-December for Master Gracey (April-December restored in a different location in 2021), they also made a new and improved version of this original effect. The only place I have ever seen this original effect is the 1970 Wonderful World of Disney episode Disneyland Showtime starring the Osmonds, also linked below. These are all classic Disney artwork which start out as regular paintings, but when the lightning strikes, the paintings reveal much more sinister versions of themselves. Medusa turns into stone much like her roots in Greek mythology, the Werecat Lady reveals herself to be a roaring tiger, the Flying Dutchman becomes an eerie ghost ship, and Edward the Black Prince and his horse become skeletons in their cursed image. You can also hear the wonderful Ghost host narration provided by the late, great Paul Frees, the same person who narrated another 1960's WED classic: Adventure thru Inner Space. The Portrait Hallway is also a very practical section of the Mansion as it takes guests into the larger show building, and under the Disneyland Railroad tracks in the process, before they later come out thru Little Leota's Exit speed ramp at the end of the ride. This version of the video includes new, more accurate audio mixed by me using the individual tracks, to hopefully finally do this amazing room justice. The last video is now unlisted and linked below, and I hope you enjoy these classic paintings and audio! I do not own any of the audio or images used in this video. Everything is owned by Disney, not me. Previous video: • Haunted Mansion Disneyland Original 1969 C... Disneyland Showtime (1970): • Disneyland Showtime 1970
