Does Weight Status Impact Metabolic Health in Adolescents When Controlling for Physical Fitness? MEQUON, Wisconsin—A controlled clinical study published in Pediatric Physical Therapy journal has found that physically fit adolescents who were overweight or obese had a nine-fold increase in metabolic syndrome—the asymptomatic pre-cursor of diabetes and cardiovascular disease—when compared with those who were not overweight or obese. Stacy C. Stolzman PT, PhD, from the Department of Health and Human Performance at Concordia University, Wisconsin discusses the findings of her research and their implications for pediatric physical therapy practice and health education.
