Building a spectrum analyzer

New Year is sneaking up on us but I haven't bought any fireworks. I do have a video with a lot of lights in it though. For quite a while I have wanted to build a spectrum analyzer or audio analyzer - one of those that shows the level of the individual frequency bands in an audio signal. What has so far kept me away from making such a contraption is that it requires many LEDs and some quite expensive display drivers. Fortunately I suddenly found both in a Chinese online shop for a very low price. So I bought 10 LM3915 and a pile of LEDs and got started. The music is "Narresutten" (literally "the pacifier" but it can also be translated to "stupid drunkard" - it's a song about waking up with a huge hangover) which was written by the Danish band Shubidua in the mid 1980s. I play it on my Technics SM-AC80 organ module.
