National Seminar on the theme Anthropology in Contemporary Practice: Pathways for a Sustainable Future is organized by the Department of Anthropology, 26-27th September 2025. Professor R. Siva Prasad, an eminent social anthropologist and academic with over four decades of experience in teaching and research. Professor Prasad served as Professor and Head of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Hyderabad, and was also associated with the Centre for Digital Learning, Training and Resources at the same university. He completed his Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Mysore through the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bengaluru, under the guidance of the renowned sociologist Prof. M. N. Srinivas. Over the course of his distinguished career, Professor Prasad has held several important academic and research positions, including RBI Chair Professor and Regional Director at the Council for Social Development, Hyderabad, and earlier served at institutions such as the Institute for Social and Economic Change in Bengaluru and Mangalore University. His research spans a wide range of themes including social inequality, development studies, rural and urban communities, livelihood systems, public health, and natural resource management. Professor Prasad has guided numerous M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars, published extensively in national and international journals, and contributed to interdisciplinary research and policy initiatives. He has also been associated with national commissions on Denotified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Tribes of India, contributing to important policy discussions on marginalized communities. He currently serves as a member of the UNESCO Information for All Programme (IFAP) Working Group on Information Ethics, continuing to contribute to global discussions on knowledge access and information ethics.
