Consider Supporting HoH: / houseofhistory In the summer of 1944, the imminent defeat of Nazi Germany was coming closer every day, although the Germans were willing to fight until the last man. Not just the Nazi leadership realized they were losing the war, but so were their partners. Italy signed a peace treaty with the allied powers in 1943 and in August, one year later, the Romanians, after a coup, switched sides, from the Axis to the Allies. The Hungarians were still part of the Axis Powers, but their regent, Miklos Horthy, had secretly entered peace negotiations with the allies. So.. what do you think the Nazis did in such a dire situation? Probably not kidnap the son of the regent, in order to force a halt to the negotiations, and kidnap the regent himself right after? Yeah.. well that’s exactly what the Nazis did. Thank you for taking the time to check out House of History, I hope you will find the films informative, interesting and enjoyable!
