The decade is generally split into three distinct periods: The Late Attitude Era (2000–2002): Defined by the "Monday Night Wars" victory, the purchase of WCW, and the star power of The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Ruthless Aggression Era (2002–2008): Following a famous promo by Vince McMahon, this era focused on technical wrestling and "homegrown" talent. It featured the first Brand Split (Raw vs. SmackDown). The Early PG Era (2008–2009): To appeal to a wider audience and sponsors, WWE moved away from blood and adult content, centering the product around John Cena.
