These neurotransmitters have a role in activating that parasympathetic nervous system which causes Vasa dilation and plays a role in lowering risk of hypertension as well as cardiovascular disease. This also plays a role in reducing stress as well as pain due to those neurotransmitters binding to the opioid receptors so it can result in temporary relief of pain and stress levels. Since laughing does activate that parasympathetic nervous system the Vasa dilation that occurs (also) reduces stress and anxiety. But it also causes muscle relaxation and just promotes relaxation throughout your body. I'd say there's like a lot of evidence that says that laughter is the best medicine and (it) improves your cardiovascular health. For what I know it reduces your blood pressure and increases blood flow to the brain. It increases your cholesterol and reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke. It improves your stress, at least for me, it does. I find that whenever I'm laughing with my friends and stuff, there's immediate release in my body and I feel less tension in my brain and just overall happier. Endorphins and serotonin are the body's natural neurotransmitters which can reduce stress and anxiety and enhance your mood. When you laugh, you produce endorphins and those help by proxy relax your muscles, stimulates blood flow and those are good things for your immune system. When you have high levels of stress and high levels of cortisol, your immune system is weakened. And so laughter helps promote the decrease of cortisol, the decrease of stress and by proxy, (it) really strengthens your immune system. So when you laugh, you increase the oxygen to your brain that can promote a lot of mental clarity. So laughter can really promote the breaking down of social barriers. (It) also gives an opportunity for everyone to connect around the same shared experience. Laughter has an innate ability to help reduce tension in a room and help people to open up and find new ways to connect to each other. Laughter leads to natural pain relief because it triggers (the) release of neurotransmitters in your body such as serotonin, endorphins, and dopamine that are the body's natural painkillers.
