With dangerous winter weather approaching, I built a third feral cat shelter, improving on my original A-frame design to give cats more space and better protection from the elements. The first shelter had A-frame sides that were about 18" wide, with a floor roughly 18" x 24" and a peak around 24" high. This version keeps the same height and interior width, but I extended the depth by another 6 inches, making the floor closer to 24" x 24" so cats have more room to stay warm and dry. The structure is built using: 2 cedar fence pickets 1 piece of 2x3 lumber Cardboard stapled on to fully enclose the shelter and create an extended roof over the entrance The cardboard enclosure helps block wind, snow, and freezing rain, while the roof overhang keeps moisture out so the inside stays dry. It’s a simple, low-cost build meant to provide real protection during extreme cold. Out here, feral cats help control rodents and pests, and when severe weather rolls in, we try to do what we can to help them survive it. #FeralCatShelter #WinterStormPrep #ExtremeCold #DIYCatHouse #AFrameShelter #OutdoorCats #SevereWeather #AnimalCare #NailedItByBen #ice #snow #storm #winter #winterseason
