Take a relaxed walking tour with me through the heart of historic Hermanus, South Africa. Starting in the town center, I make my way to the old harbour, a cornerstone of Hermanus fishing heritage since the early 1900s, where fishermen once set sail and traded their catches. I pass through the front yard of the De Wets Huis and the Whale Museum, home to exhibits on Hermanus’ rich maritime history and its famous whale-watching culture. Although I didn’t enter, their historic charm makes them landmarks worth admiring. I then stroll by Fisherman's Cottage, a preserved building that speaks to the lives of early fishing families in Hermanus, and the nearby church, one of the oldest in town. The walk ends at the beach with informative biodiversity signs and a stunning viewpoint overlooking Walker Bay near the old harbour.
