A thing that’s massively improved my running. For about a year now I’ve been entering smaller races and not really racing them. Half marathons, Marathons and 50ks They have been training runs, practicing all the things I’m not that good at at. Getting fitter is relatively easy, but that doesn’t mean you’ll race well, which I have found out many times. Going out too quick, getting stitches and cramps, being dehydrated, wearing the wrong kit, you name it I’ve had it. But ever since I’ve been entering these smaller events it’s helped with building confidence, working on a strategy, but we need to be adaptable if something goes wrong, which has a high chance when running long distances. Things B and C races can help with. -Nutrition -Pacing -Hydration -Kit testing -Becoming more adaptable -Learning how to run your own race Use events to make mistakes and learn from them. The only result that counts is the A race, everything beforehand is to develop the ability to get it right when it counts. Best to try and replicate the ground your A race will be on, and this method of incorporating training races can be used on any distance too. Massive shout out to big feat events too, a lovely running event with loads of different distances, check them out. bigfeatevents.com/
