TOUCH: AN ODE TO EVANGELION (2014): ‣ TOUCH (Daft Punk) is featured as an exploration of the ties that bind Evangelion and its characters, and the emotional impact of the titular gesture. Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories' epic is bound to Evangelion in an operatic distillation of the series in a time before it found its conclusion in Evangelion 3.0+1.0. FICTION: A FAREWELL TO EVANGELION (2023): ‣ DEMON DAYS (Gorillaz) Neo-Gospel meets Neon Genesis in a battle against the currents of the river Acheron, then upward into Elysium. Much like Evangelion does at its core, the song serves as a depiction of the horror of existing as a member of society and a desperate plea to continue on through one's hardships, embracing the happiness life can bring — and not being "burnt" by its complications. The titular and final song on Gorillaz's album 'Demon Days' finds melodic and instrumental parallel to KOMM, SUSSER TOD, the centerpiece original song from The End of Evangelion. ‣ TACTICS (Japanese Breakfast) is an upside-down slow dance through sea and air straight through to the very end. Its progression, instrumental selection and big ballad emotions play parallel to Shiro Sagisu's rendition of VOYAGER in Evangelion 3.0+1.0. In the way that one could imagine VOYAGER to be a ballad sung by Yui (vocals by Megumi Ogata) to Shinji or Gendo, the same applies for the impassioned lyrical content of TACTICS. Additionally, it also features the lyric that inspired the AMV's title: "Dose up on fiction / Disfigure the truth" — while also echoing Rei's words to Shinji: "You escaped into imagination, and distorted the truth."
