Dr. Perdita Phillips is a contemporary artist whose conceptual practice responds to landscapes through walking, fieldwork, installation, and sound. Her work examines ecological crises by drawing connections across past, present, and future conditions. Phillips’ practice seeks to re-sensitise audiences to the environment and the complexities of ecological change. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, staging recent solo shows such as Rock Love and Collected Habitats. Her moving image works have been screened at festivals and conferences, while public commissions like the Joondakammer sculpture expand her reach. Phillips continues to create projects that entwine art, ecology, and cultural reflection. Presented by Southern Forest Arts the exhibition features artists Tarsh Bates, Renata Buziak, Kim V Goldsmith, Lee Harrop, Susan Hauri-Downing, Catherine Higham, WhiteFeather Hunter with Kate Goff, Forest Keegel, Heidi Kenyon x Friendly Conspiracy, Linda Knight, Annette Nykiel, Perdita Phillips, Jane Richens, Debbie Symons, Cassandra Tytler, and Clarice Yuen with curator Sharmila Wood. Through sound, fibre, film, installation, and sculpture, Resonance: Dialogues in Art and Ecology gives voice to worms, fungi, beetles, seeds, fibre, barnacles, lichens, wind, birdsong, heartbeats, rain, and soil. From the granular and microscopic to planetary systems, the works gathered here highlight ecological interdependence and call audiences to listen, respond, and engage. Soft Infrastructures, Fragile Futures was the first in a series of online talks facilitated by Curator Sharmila Wood for Resonance and featured guest artists Sue Hauri- Downing, Perdita Phillips, and WhiteFeather Hunter. Handwoven roads, floating chairs, and embodied rituals offer fragile but hopeful pathways through uncertain futures. These works invite reflection on loss, care, and survival — and ask how imagination and tenderness might carry us through ecological collapse. Southern Forest Arts presents Resonance as an exhibition and gathering of creative voices responding to the intricate, interdependent systems that sustain life on this planet. The project brings together artists who listen deeply to place and translate those encounters into forms that help us see and feel our shared ecological reality anew. Resonance situates the work of eighteen Australian artists within the ecoartspace transnational platform, founded in 1997 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, by Patricia Watts to support artists, scientists, and advocates addressing environmental issues. Platforms such as ecoartspace are vital because they create cultural spaces where ecological narratives can be explored in ways that science or policy alone cannot achieve. Resonance represents an inaugural milestone for the Australian chapter of ecoartspace, constituting the first convening of its members and establishing a foundation for ongoing national dialogue and exchange. The accompanying residency brings eight artists together in the Southern Forests, offering time for shared research, knowledge exchange, and immersion in Country. Beyond studio practice, the residency forges community, and a shifting scale between micro and macro, and the entanglements of human and nonhuman worlds. The residency element of Resonance speaks to the multiple forms of being together that underpin this project. Field research; knowledge exchange and informal structures are embraced as equal forms. The exhibition holds these varied modes of relation- proximity, divergence, synchronicity, and exchange as equally integral to material objects. Resonance is both an exhibition and a process, a record of what happens when artists meet, and a reminder that creative practice thrives in intersectional spaces.
