Be sure to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to my channel! Ask me more questions in the COMMENTS down below! HAPPY HUMP DAY EVERYONE!! Hope you all haven't been engulfed in the Facebook Skittles v. Confederacy war of 2015. For you few survivors, here's a video to fight the PTSD! This week we answer the long, convoluted debate, "Can you learn Japanese from Anime or Manga?". Every con-goer would argue yes, every linguist would argue no; where do I stand? And where is the truth of the matter? Probably somewhere in-between. Steps: 1. Don't watch anime with ENGLISH subtitles. Your brain will default to English, and you will be sorely short-selling yourself. But this doesn't mean no-subs ever. 2. Find the Japanese Subtitles for the show you're using to study. There's tons of subtitle websites online. If you found me, I assume you're more than capable of finding them. 3. Watch the first time through with NO SUBS. Try your best to understand what you can, get a good idea for what you already know and what might be set phrases/expressions. 4. Watch again with Japanese subs, using a dictionary and something to write down all the words/grammar you don't know. 5. Rewatch again (I know...) without the subs, but with the notebook and see how much more you understand! Congrats! You watched an anime, in only Japanese, and understood most of it! You should be proud. I take tips in the form of subscribing. Beyond these, make sure the anime is easier to watch, with less dialogue than normal. My recommendation (and personal favorite) is Hotarubi No Mori E. There used to be a version on YouTube, but it appears to be gone :/ Tofugu Article: http://www.tofugu.com/2014/02/24/lear...
