The performance takes place within the context of Murmuring Matter (21 – 23 April 2023), the fourth edition of Urgency Intensive by the Jan van Eyck Academie. Inspired by the work of biologist Lynn Margulis on the concept of Symbiosis and her understanding of the human body as a Holobiont (an ecosystem where human cells cohabit with multiple other life forms), this performance explores what it means to experience ourselves, our bodies as not strictly human but as a community of interrelated and interdependent organisms, cohabiting and inter-reacting with one another, providing for each other, living together. This work offers a listening to micro places in our bodies and the diversity within them, taking us out of a binary and reductive regime, cultivating a different sense of ourselves and the environment we are part of. Concept: Fabrice Mazliah Choreography: Fabrice Mazliah in collaboration with I-Fang Lin, Islam Eleebishyi, Emmanuel Obeya Performed by: I-Fang Lin, Islam Eleebishyi, Emmanuel Obeya Produced by: Work of Act Co-Production: Theater im Depot, Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, Unterstützt durch das NATIONALE PERFORMANCE NETZ Koproduktionsförderung Tanz, gefördert von der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.Gefördert vom hessischen Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst, Work of Act wird unterstützt durch die Zweijahresförderung der Stadt Frankfurt. The ongoing environmental breakdown has made evident the agency of viral, vegetal, animal, atmospheric, and other material manifestations, which have evaded human control and reclaimed an active role in the unfolding of earthly narratives. Bridging the analytical and sensorial, the verbal and non-verbal, the cognitive and affective, Murmuring Matter traverses multiple scales of materials, bodies, river-, forest-, and cityscapes of Maastricht and beyond as gateways to access wider planetary stories and cosmopolitics.
