This is CAMERON and MaREGINE'S Session with Sandra Larson. This reading was edited from a 60 minute session. Sandra has no prior knowledge about the people or animals she meets in her sessions, and all of the people in the Lone Star Animal Medium YouTube sessions are real clients. All sessions are shot in real time. SANDRA'S SESSION COMMENTARY: Bringing two dogs into one family can be an exciting adventure when you approach it with patience, clear routines, and plenty of positive reinforcement. Meeting Cameron and MaRegine was a genuine pleasure. It was evident how much they love their dogs and how excited they are to merge their families. This session was a delight to do. Normally, when I communicate with living animals, they are in the room! However, this was an impromptu session when we learned MaRegine had a few concerns about her new move and how the dogs would do long term. In this session, we meet Billy and Arlo. Billy is a confident, resilient rescue who believes he’s a great dog worth keeping. He thrives on reassurance and stability and can be sensitive to abandonment cues. Arlo, on the other hand, is smart, energetic, and a herding-type dog who needs ongoing mental and physical outlets, clear boundaries, and opportunities to channel his instincts in healthy ways. The key takeaway is that each dog brings a unique history and set of needs, and the goal is a calm, secure environment where both feel valued. Both Billy and Arlo are rescue dogs. Arlo was found in the woods of Michigan and made his move down to Texas with Cameron. Billy was discovered through a non-profit rescue organization called Three Little Pitties (3LP), which is based in Houston, Texas. After some online research, MaRegine found Three Little Pittie while she was living in the Pacific Northwest, which rescues strays in Houston and transports them to the Pacific Northwest for adoption. It turned out to be a perfect match, especially for Billy, who was only three months old when he was rescued from the streets of Houston. Three Little Pitties: https://www.threelittlepittiesrescue.org Why this merge matters comes down to a few core concepts. Resource guarding can arise in dogs who’ve survived tough conditions, like Billy has experienced, and without careful management it can lead to tension or aggression. The “eh” interrupt is a gentle cue used to stop inappropriate behavior and redirect to a safer option, serving as a guide rather than a punishment. In a blended household, it’s essential that both dogs feel equally loved and included, which helps prevent jealousy and stress. Bite inhibition and gentle play are also important; interruptions teach dogs to play more gently and help build safe, enjoyable interactions over time. Creating separate spaces for meals and downtime to prevent immediate competition is very important at first. Scent-sharing items like blankets and towels are a great way to begin a gradual scent exchange and establish a neutral intro area such as a quiet space with doors or gates. Stock high-value rewards, like small pieces of cheese or chicken, to reinforce positive associations during introductions. Avoid forcing closeness; if either dog shows stress, increase distance and take a step back. The next step in integration includes shared space with close supervision. Conduct short, controlled interactions on leashes and gradually reduce the distance between the dogs. Introduce joint activities like side-by-side walks and treat exchanges with one handler guiding both dogs. Establish basic cues that both dogs understand—things like sit, stay, leave it, and place—and begin sharing resources under careful supervision, starting with separate mats or bowls. Implementation of these guidelines can help smooth out the adventure of merging two dog families. Together, we can also tailor specific plans for dog parents who aren’t quite sure where to start. These plans take into consideration the living space, current routines, work hours, and housing layout. And finally, merging Billy and Arlo into one harmonious family is a journey grounded in positive reinforcement, clear boundaries, and consistent, compassionate guidance. By honoring each dog’s history, maintaining consistent routines and following a thoughtful introduction process, Cameron and MaRegine can build a confident, secure, and loving pair of canine companions. I wish them great success in their new adventure. I’m sure all will be well. Cameron and MaRegine are a wonderful caring couple that both share a love of animals, especially their dogs! - Many Blessings, Sandra SANDRA LARSON: https://www.sandralarson.com/ LUCKY PICKLE MEDIA: https://www.lucky-pickle.com/lone-sta...
