About World Scholar's Cup: The World Scholar's Cup (WSC) is an international team academic tournament with students participating from over 40 countries. The competition was founded by DemiDec, in particular by Daniel Berdichevsky, DemiDec's president, in 2006. The WSC has attracted what it calls "a global community of future scholars and leaders", and promotes that it allows participants to "discover strengths and skills you never knew you had." Tournament Format: A team for the WSC is composed three students, though students are permitted to work individually or in groups of hundred. The teams are usually made up of students from the same school, but that's not always the case. Students have the option of forming "independent" teams that may include students from other schools or even other countries. Teams may participate in any regional round, but may only participate in one per year. If teams are unable to attend a regional round but would still like to participate in the global round, they may apply for an exceptionable berth. In order to qualify for the global round, a team competing in the regional round must meet one of the following three conditions: Be in the top half of their respective division Be the top team from their school in each division, or Score a certain number of points. In order to qualify for the further, "Tournament of Champions," held for the first time in 2012 at Yale University, teams an individuals had to meet the following conditions: Be in the top 20% of highest scoring teams at the Global round in either junior or senior teams. Score 7500+ points out of 10000 to qualify as an individual. There are both senior and junior divisions in the competition. A student's age designates which division they may participate in. Students that are ages 11--14 participate in the junior division, while students 15 and older participate in the senior division.[1] A junior can participate in the senior division if he/she wishes to. Both divisions participate simultaneously, though juniors only compete against juniors and seniors against seniors. Events: The WSC consists of four main events: The Scholar's Challenge, Collaborative Writing, The Team Debate, and The Scholar's Bowl. In addition to these four events, many more events have come to join the tournament. These events are both social and academic, and strive to solidify the community aspect of the WSC. About Kolej Yayasan Saad: Kolej Yayasan Saad (KYS), also known as Saad Foundation College (SFC), is a private, fully residential school founded by Tan Sri Halim bin Saad in 1995. It was built in memory of his late father. The college is located at Ayer Keroh, Melaka. The motto of Kolej Yayasan Saad is "Centre of Excellence". Kolej Yayasan Saad conducts a student selection process every year. Only Form 1 students for the next school session are allowed to apply. The first step of the selection process is sending the KYS application form, which is available from the school's website. The school receives about 6,000 applicants per year. From these applicants, 2,000 of those who fulfill the criteria are selected for the written Entrance Examination, taken at 20 venues nationwide. The top 200 students in this exam proceed to the third and final process, where they go to KYS for a four-days Residential Student Selection. During the four days process, candidates face testing which includes interviews, IQ tests, a personality test, an aptitude test, a physical test, group presentation, and a stage performance. Candidates are evaluated by facilitators and teachers. From the initial 6,000 participants, only the best 60 candidates (approximately of 40 boys and 20 girls) are admitted into KYS in any one academic year, making the school population of the five batches of approximately 300 resident students only.
