How to make insurance loss data usable for climate risk and adaptation.

The analysis of current practices in risk assessment within the public sector and insurance is explained. This assessment identifies best practices as well as gaps, and it provides a guide on how to conduct a risk assessment that incorporates loss data. The session also highlights how ontology-driven approaches can be used to integrate heterogeneous climate-related economic loss data and improve data interoperability. A Norwegian case study demonstrates how detailed insurance claims and exposure datasets can be used to understand climate-related loss patterns, and inform climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction strategies.
