Northfork West Virginia was once a thriving and bustling coal and railroad town. Unfortunately, with the collapse of the coal mining industry it's been left a shell of what once was, and is looking very grim in many areas. Incorporated in 1901 and named for its postion along the north fork of Elkhorn Creek, Northfork was a major hub for coal mining production and railroads in it's time. Nowadays, with a population of just 193 people, and an unbelievably high poverty level of over 50%, a recovery is looking very unlikely at least in the near future. Unemployment is at almost 7%, income per capita is just 10,500 dollars, and the population is declining at 3.5% every year. I took a look into some of the forgotten and main street areas, it looked like at one point it was an amazingly beautiful place. Let's check out some of it. ►Join my community for exclusive members only content: / @hoodsnhollers #westvirginia #coalmining #northfork
