37407, 20142 & 20189 take on the "Carols at Norwich Cathedral" Tour | 14th December 2024

To wrap up the year of tours within Norfolk, UKRailtours organised a tour with Class 37 37407 and what should have been 37423 (broke down do to blown batteries). Class 20's 20142 and 20189 replaced 37423 at last minute racing down from Kidderminster to Welwyn Garden City to join the tour for the second day. I wanted to end of the year with a chase, following the tour at various places as a nice final treat for the year. First up, 37407 leads the tour departing Norwich towards Great Yarmouth on 1Z40 Norwich - Lowestoft, the second leg of the tour, seen at Whitlingham Junction foot crossing/footbridge. Second up, Class 20's 20189 and 20142 are seen at the head of the consist heading towards Reedham Junction after heading from Great Yarmouth via Berney Arms. The set was to turn around at Reedham station. Next, 37407 is seen heading off into the low winter sun over the Reedham swing bridge going towards Lowestoft to do some rare track running in the sidings there. This shot was a bit awful due to the sun being directly in front of me but it worked out kind of. After that after the sunset, we were at Wymondham to accidentally see the 3S60 RHTT run with Class 66 66729 and 66710 pass at slow speeds. A few minutes later Class 37 37407 heads past with the tour heading towards Peterborough ready for the return to London. In the background of the Wymondham shots, Class 43's 43480, 43468, 43162 & 43160 stabled at Wymondham after coming from Laira depot in Plymouth. The GWR powercars along with two ex-Caledonian Sleeper Mk3's are to be stored on the Mid Norfolk Railway but have yet to head to the branch for unknown reasons. They are currently stored in the Up Siding until Tuesday 17th December.
