A heated exchange took place in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly during the Question Hour as BJP MLA Sunil Kumar strongly criticized minister Mallikarjun over alleged discrepancies in the data presented regarding relief funds. The controversy erupted when the minister stated that ₹5.53 crore had been released for controlling the spread of leaf spot disease affecting crops. However, Sunil Kumar questioned the figures presented in the Assembly, pointing out inconsistencies in the numbers related to compensation and beneficiaries. During the debate, the minister reportedly mentioned that around 16,000 people had received compensation. But later in the speech, the number was stated as 22,000 beneficiaries, which triggered sharp criticism from the opposition benches. Sunil Kumar accused the minister of giving incorrect information in the Assembly and demanded clarification. He also questioned whether the department’s data was properly linked with the budget figures presented by the government. The BJP leader said legislators were discussing the issue based on the official budget documents and therefore incorrect figures should not be placed before the House.
