#28 – SETÚBAL – CARREGAMENTO DE CHOCOS / CUTTLEFISH LOADING

Este vídeo retrata uma saída realizada em Setúbal, no estuário do Sado, em 09-04-2022, e mostra a pesca de choco com palhaços, na companhia de muitos dos meus amigos e companheiros desta magnífica modalidade. A pesca do choco é muito praticada entre nós, regra geral, em águas pouco profundas e abrigadas, pelo que, as rias, lagoas, enseadas e estuários são spots preferenciais para a pesca do choco. Preferindo fundos arenosos, ou ainda com cascalho e afloramentos rochosos, este predador, procura para a sua alimentação, caranguejos, camarões, pequenos peixes e até mesmo outros moluscos. A pesca do choco é realizada com marés pequenas, isto é, nos dias em que amplitude entre as marés (vazia e cheia) é pequena, o que acontece nas fases da lua que adotam a designação de quarto minguante ou de quarto crescente, pelo que, nessas alturas as correntes são fracas, e permitem que o choco ataque os palhaços. Este tipo de pesca é efetuado numa embarcação e na modalidade de à rola (deriva), sendo que o movimento é originado pela corrente ou pelo vento, em ambas as situações, a velocidade da deriva deve ser inferior a 2 nós, para permitir que o choco ataque o palhaço. Quando a velocidade for superior a 2 nós, temos que utilizar um artefato, que se designa por pilão, que consiste num peso preso a um cabo que será arrastado pela embarcação e que retarda o movimento desta. O palhaço é uma pequena amostra com a forma de camarão e que tem na sua extremidade uma “coroa de alfinetes”, onde os tentáculos do choco ficam presos, quando estes abraçam o corpo do palhaço. A ação de pesca poderá ser iniciada com a utilização de amostras com cores fortes para testar a atividade dos chocos, sendo que, se verificarmos que existe uma fraca atividade, convirá passar para umas cores mais naturais, e portanto, menos agressivas. Na pesca ao choco a maior dificuldade do pescador é conseguir acertar nas cores dos palhaços de forma a ter uma elevada quantidade de capturas. Nesta saída as condições meteorológicas não foram as melhores por estar vento e o estado do mar refletir essa situação, contudo foi possível realizar a saída de kayak com a finalidade da pesca. Nesta saída, o meu amigo Carlos Rosa depois de um brilhante desempenho com a captura de cerca de 20 chocos, acabou por constatar perto do final da jornada, que o seu saco de rede dos chocos tinha-se soltado, são coisas que acontecem, mas depois disso, dificilmente lhe acontecerá o mesmo, pois substituiu a corda por uma corrente de aço, 😜. Cuttlefish fishing is widely practiced among us, as a general rule, in shallow, sheltered waters, which is why rivers, lagoons, inlets and estuaries are preferred spots for cuttlefish fishing. Preferring sandy, muddy bottoms, or even with gravel and rocky outcrops, this predator looks for crabs, shrimps, small fish and even other molluscs for its food. Cuttlefish fishing is carried out with small tides, that is, on days when the amplitude between the tides (empty and full) is small, which happens in the phases of the moon that use the designation of waning or crescent, so, at that time the currents are weak, and allow the cuttlefish to attack the clowns. This type of fishing is carried out on a vessel and in the form of a roll (drift), and the movement is caused by the current or the wind, in both situations, the speed of the drift must be less than 2 knots, to allow the cuttlefish attack the clown. When the speed is greater than 2 knots, we have to use a device, which is called a pylon, which consists of a weight attached to a cable that will be dragged by the vessel and which delays its movement. The clown is a small artifact in the shape of a shrimp and has at its end a “pin crown”, where the cuttlefish tentacles are trapped when they hug the clown. The fishing action can be initiated with the use of samples with strong colors to test the cuttlefish activity, and if we verify that there is a weak activity, it will be advisable to switch to more natural, and therefore less aggressive colors. In cuttlefish fishing the biggest difficulty for the fisherman is to get the colors of the clowns right in order to have a high amount of catches. On this exit, the weather conditions were not the best due to the wind and the state of the sea reflecting this situation, however, it was possible to go kayaking for the purpose of fishing. On this journey, my friend Carlos Rosa, after a brilliant performance with the capture of about 20 cuttlefish, ended up realizing near the end of the day that his cuttlefish net bag had come loose, these are things that happen, but after that, the same is unlikely to happen to him, as he replaced the rope with a steel chain, I'm sure you will like it.
