Not my best creation which is a huge shame, here's a summary of my messy day going from Bosnia to Slovenia via the Croatian coast. I’d already decided that I was heading home, but I was in a rush to get out of Bosnia and back to where my phone worked again - having no way of contacting anyone or checking anything was a huge problem for me so my priority was to get to the border without anything going wrong. Bosnia was a beautiful country to ride through with kind people and a fascinating mixture of new and old that I love to see. Unbeknownst to me, shortly before my arrival Bosnia had experienced catastrophic flooding and landslides which had destroyed homes and lives in some parts of the country. The RR and I followed the route west through one of the towns hit the worst by these events and the scenes were devastating. A path had been cleared through the destroyed town to allow traffic through but cleanup was still very much in its early stages. I can still see in my mind the homes ripped open and cars crushed under the weight of mud, at one point I rode past what appeared to be a house with a boulder shaped hole straight through it - something I was completely unprepared for, it was absolutely heartbreaking. 4 hours of riding carefully towards the coast brought me to the border with Croatia where I was relieved to get onto a motorway and put some miles behind me. I knew I wanted to ride the coast road and booked a place halfway up it that would put me at my stop for the night at a reasonable time, but shortly before arriving my booking was rejected. Rather than spend a lot of money staying somewhere close I decided to give myself a long day and continue into Slovenia where I was hoping to end up the following night. It was a shame to have to rush these miles, the Croatian roads along the coast and into the mountains were motorcycling paradise, despite being quite tired I was able to enjoy some smooth dry roads and lots of fun twisties. By the final 50 miles it was completely dark and the only road that brought me into Slovenia near my booked hostel was narrow, winding and through a forest, I looked at several routes around it but all of them added another hour to my already 12+ hour day. I accepted that I'd have to ride this forest road and hoped I'd join another car on the way so I could follow their lights and know I wasn't alone. Luckily for most of this road which was populated with large wildlife, I was able to follow a slow van. Finally I made it to my hostel, exhausted, stressed, hungry and frustrated with my lack of filmed content from such a massive day, but happy to be there. After filming this video I had to do a massive piece of life admin and didn’t get to bed until almost midnight. 470 miles, 13 hours on the road, red bull and petrol station coffee. What a day. Actually this caption is more descriptive than the video, if you managed to read all of it - thank you for your perseverance!
