So what is special about these Locomotive?, , Why only Chennai Central. Here you see one of these blue beauties coming in with the rakes of AC DD to Bangalore scheduled for departure in 30 min. You would be surprised only 15 of this type WDM7 were produced and all of them are in service and that too at Chennai Central. How did they all lan up here?. They move rakes between the Train Care Centre and the Chennai Central Platforms 365 days a year an untiring work, They were conceived as lightweight version of WDM2 meant for Branch line operations!. 16 Cylinder 4 stroke Diesel, 2000hp, Co-Co wheels, 105 Kmph. 15 produced between 1987-1989. But unfortunately all she'd declined them and they ended up at ERS doing branch line work in NBR - SRR- ERS - KTYM section. They were very efficient and later they were transferred to TNP. One unit 11008 was modified to run on bio- diesel. All 15 units are now doing shunting operations at Chennai Central. They look exactly like WDM2.
