After her grandmother became blind as a result of AMD (age-related macular degeneration), Marie Naffah asked herself 'what is it like to lose your sight?' She wrote, recorded and performed a song while blindfolded. In this inspirational tribute to her grandmother and to creativity, the musician tells the story of recording her track 'blindfold' with six visually impaired musicians. Disability, she shows, does not obstruct talent or creativity. Marie Naffah is a 23-year-old singer/songwriter from London. Since graduating from the Courtauld Institute of Art in 2015, Marie has performed internationally, with her most recent shows taking place in Brussels and Berlin. Last year, Marie teamed up with a group of six blind and visually impaired musicians in order to record her track 'Blindfold' which formed part of a short documentary that seeks to raise awareness and understanding for the issues surrounding visual impairment and sight loss: • #Blindfold: 6 Visually Impaired Musicians ... She is currently working on her debut release and was named MTV’s Unsigned Artist of 2014 This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
