CASA Choices - Mark Plunkett, MD

On this edition of CASA Choices, we are excited to present Mark Plunkett, MD. Dr. Plunkett will share his journey from foster care, to attending medical school, and becoming a doctor! Dr. Plunkett grew up in Maryland and spent thirteen years in a foster home. He received his Medical Degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He completed his residency training in General and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Duke University Medical Center. He then completed fellowship training at UCLA Medical Center in pediatric heart surgery and heart transplantation. He has completed ten medical mission trips where he has operated on children with congenital heart defects. He is currently the Chief of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery at the OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois and an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He is a member of the Board of Directors for CASA of the Tenth Judicial Circuit. He also has a rock band called the "Heart Menders" and enjoys playing music for local fundraising events.
