Vlog #40 | February 4, 2026 Coffee, Coincidences & a soon-to-open Tiki Bar in Camarillo ☕🌴 Today’s vlog starts as a workday detour on a very hot day! While passing through Camarillo on my way back from Thousand Oaks, I decide to keep my ongoing hunt for great coffee a little closer to home. I set my navigation for a coffee shop in Old Town Camarillo, but about half a block from my destination I catch the unmistakable smell of espresso drifting out of American Pie Records & Coffee House — and that was all it took. Inside is a funky little spot filled with vintage vinyl, band posters, and great energy. The barista makes me an excellent café breve, which I sip while browsing the records and soaking in the vibe. Just a short walk away, I stumble upon something even more unexpected: the exterior of my friend’s new tiki bar, House of Bamboo, set to open February 11. I stop to admire the tiki statues and décor outside, but skip going in since they’re still deep in prep mode. Back on the move, I reflect a bit on why views on my garden channel dipped in mid-January — nothing alarming, just part of the creative ebb and flow — and remind myself that a few new projects should get things rolling again. I head back to the Ventura office to wrap up paperwork, grab lunch at home, and then return to Camarillo for a 1 PM client meeting. Along the way, I share a funny coincidence: one of the guys working on the tiki bar just happens to be the winner of a free air plant giveaway from my garden channel. He lives in San Diego, wasn’t working today, and had no idea the bar was connected to my childhood friend. Small world. We make plans to reunite with the plant on Friday. I also tease an upcoming garden tour video I’m planning. I tried to connect with the garden’s owner today to lock in details, but he was unavailable — and admittedly a little shy since the garden hasn’t been cleaned up since August. Even though I wasn’t planning to film today… let’s be honest, I probably would have tried anyway. At home, the heat is no joke — the weather app says 86°, but the car dashboard reads 91°, and it feels every bit of it. I water the plants, eat a leftover stuffed bell pepper, grab the giveaway plant, and head back to Camarillo. After my meeting, I return to House of Bamboo, and this time I'm inside. I’m given permission to take photos and video as long as I keep everything under wraps until opening day — a promise I happily keep. Huge thanks to Notch Gonzalez for the sneak peek. The work inside is incredible, and this place is going to be something special. With the workday done and the evening still warm, we cap things off with a walk to a Thai restaurant with outdoor seating, enjoying this beautiful February Southern California weather as the sun goes down. That’s it for today — coffee discoveries, coincidences, and a tiki bar reveal I can't show you. 🌴🍹
