This was my second visit to Tal Chappar Wildlife Sanctuary, and the trip was packed with activities. I started from home around 5 AM and reached the guest house at Tal Chappar after a 7.5-hour journey. After lunch, I had back-to-back safaris planned. The first safari took me to the nearby areas of the sanctuary before entering the main park around 4 PM. Since only three vehicles were inside, the place was serene and peaceful. Initially, there was no sign of raptors, which was a bit disappointing. However, with patience and continuous tracking, we finally spotted our first bird—a Black-winged Kite, after about 30 minutes of searching. Soon after, we had a special encounter with a juvenile Black Francolin that came quite close to our vehicle. This was my first time observing a Black Francolin so closely from inside a vehicle, making it a memorable moment. After another 30 minutes of searching, I experienced my first-ever sighting of a Montagu’s Harrier near a water body. Not knowing much about its behavior, I waited for about 30 minutes, expecting it to drink or bathe. However, the harrier remained calm and showed no urgency. As time passed, we had to make a decision—either continue observing the harrier or explore other parts of the park in search of more raptors. We chose the second option and soon came across a family of Black Francolins. Further ahead, we spotted an eagle perched on a tree branch. Later, we returned to the same spot to spend another 10–15 minutes with the Montagu’s Harrier. With the sanctuary closing time approaching, we managed to spot two more raptors in the distance, but unfortunately, they were too far away to capture on video. I hope you enjoy watching this video!
