This is a walkthrough of the boss rush mode where you have to beat all the bosses without dying. Review - When I saw the first trailer of this game, I was blown away. This was the ultimate Terminator 2 game that we have all been waiting for. I think the trailer did it too much justice. Don’t get me wrong, this is a good game and a fantastic tribute to the film, but it just hasn’t blown me away like the trailer has. The gameplay is very basic and is very easy to pick up and play, and it is fun, almost the entire way. The influence from Contra is very obvious but in a meta way because it uses scenes from Contra 3 that are a blatant rip off of the Terminator films, like the iconic part where the wall opens up in the background to reveal a robot boss. There are also nods to the NES game, which is my favourite Terminator game. I mean, some levels are bound to overlap since they are both influenced by the film, but the Biker beat em up level, the bike chase level, and the elevator level where you have to plant bombs, are obviously ripped from the NES game, and this is a brilliant homage. The whole game is made not only as a homage to the film, but also of the past games to the film. And even to unrelated games that used influences from the film. I love that. The music is absolutely top notch. Classic terminator music of varying genres including synth wave and even the licensing of the real song of Bad to the bone to emulate the Arnie biker fight scene. The levels are very varied so the action never gets stale. Ranging from shoot-em ups, beat em ups, and driving. The controls are always explained before each scene which is a nice touch if you don’t know what’s coming. The difficulty can be a bit all over the place due to this as you might be better at some style of play than others. But it’s brave of the devs to go really old school with the decision to make your deaths permanent. Once you lose your lives, it really is game over. Just like the good old days. This happened to me on my first playthrough on a level I was about to complete on my first try and then my wife called me to help with our baby which led to my death, and then losing all my lives on repeat tries. It was annoying at first but when I started again from the beginning, the difference was immeasurable. I absolutely smashed the game the second time around and felt like an absolute boss. I completed Normal mode with an S rank. Maybe this sounds easy, but I just gelled well with the game due to my hardcore retro experience. It might not be so easy for others. I found the ranking system a bit strange as I found, if I die, I get an E rating, if I don’t die, I get an S rating. Very rare to see something in-between. The same with the scoring at the end of the level. It tots up your scores, but you don’t get time to judge each variable because it counts down to zero so quickly. I really had no idea how the end of level score counter worked. Basically, the way how I understand the ranking and scoring system is - don’t die. The second playthrough was only 38 minutes long but there are reasons to go back as you can select different story arcs with different levels. This might still not make much of a big game, but I like short games. I felt satisfied playing it each time. The pixel art graphics are also a joy, with lots of different pictures to represent film scenes in intervals and great animation within the game. There is also an option to blur the graphics to look like an old CRT TV, which I absolutely had to use. All in all, this is a great love letter to the terminator film and games. It’s just not as amazing as the trailer made it out to be. Still, probably the best Terminator game ever made.
