Stockigt as thus: "where the solo bass vocalist constantly sings a refrain to the text ‘Laudate pueri, laudate Dominum, laudate nomen Domini’ /Praise the Lord, ye children: praise ye the name of the Lord/ while all verses are sung by the chorus as responses. The solo bass joins the choir when the doxology is reached. This relatively short and wonderfully constructed setting opens with a six-bar solo unison ritornello which not only provides the refrain sung by the solo bass throughout the work, but it becomes the connecting passages played by the basso continuo."
