LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 (DS) - Part 1 - Dark Times

Order of the Phoenix Chapter 1 1:04 - Little Whinging Park 7:59 - Ministry Atrium 10:56 - Wizard Hat #1 (True Wizard) 13:34 - DADA Lesson 16:00 - Character Token #1 (Professor Umbridge) Unlike its predecessor, Years 5-7 resembles a scaled-down console game rather than Year 1-4's isometric adventure game, and it uses the same engine as LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean (if you couldn't tell from the gameplay, the graphics, mechanics, and one-person-on-field thing). There's not a whole lot to say about the opening level. It covers Little Whinging Park and the Ministry level from the console level "Dark Times" and the first DADA lesson (guess they had budget to save). It's possible to get the X2 Stud Multiplier in this level by playing with everything in the playground - which can be incredibly time-saving (but I didn't get it because of... reasons.) Dudley this time attempts to run from the Dementor, but he runs into a corner (how idiotic), forcing Harry to go rescue him. Expectro Patronum mechanics are kind of weird - you have to shoot and then charge shot, which is unnecessary and just added in to be special. Getting to Sirius's house is skipped over. If you look closely you can even see there are studs in the cutscenes! Really tells you how they recorded the cutscenes. Strangely, the newspaper article shows Harry only casting a lame generic spell, instead of showing his stag. Why this change was made, I don't know. Post-2010 LEGO DS games have a bit of a in-level saving mechanic - the game has checkpoints in-between levels. Unlike the others though, Years 5-7 allows you to pick which section of the level you want to start out at, which is incredibly convenient (and makes me wonder why the other DS LEGOs didn't to this). In addition, getting True Wizard status nets you a Wizard Hat (this game's version of Minikits - strange, considering its House Crests in the console versions), for some reason. Probably because they skimped out on collectibles this time around... At the end of the Ministry Trial we skip over to the first DADA lesson. I kind of wish they had a hub world for Hogwarts considering that I'm sure that the 3DS is capable of it (and LEGO LotR proved that hub worlds on the DS ARE possible). Like the console games, there are potions to be made - though by the time you get to Free Play they're all useless since Strength Potion is the only important one (and Dudley does that job already). The cauldron in the hub world changes your character - important for the Dueling Club, which we'll get into later. For convenience, some areas require you to exit them via an Exit Point - convenient if you want to explore a little more before moving on. I just love how Umbridge smacks Harry with the DADA textbook. This game began a tradition of you having to buy specific characters even though you can play as them in Story Mode (and you get specific characters in later levels even if you can play as them in earlier levels). Real annoying, especially with Dumbledore.
