Calm restored in Marsabit Town after day of skirmishes

Calm returned to Marsabit Town this evening after area member of parliament, dido ali raso addressed the angry youth, and cautioned them against destruction of property and looting. This followed yesterday’s ugly ordeal between the police and protesters, mostly youth, who were demanding the release of a local Sheikh Guyo Gosa arrested by the anti terror police unit on suspicion of having links with the terror group al-shabaab. Tension was high for the better part of the day after the three young men who died in yesterday’s protest were laid to rest. More security personnel were deployed last night from within the county and businesses remained closed for the better part of the day. There was minimal movement in town till this evening. In the meantime, businessmen whose property was destroyed are beginning to count losses.
