Rathlin Ferry ⛴️ Spirit of Rathlin. Sailing. Frank was in Ballycastle at the time of the Auld Lammas Fair of Ballycastle. Frank went to the haven to get the Ferry to Rathlin. The Rathlin Island Ferry and Kintra Boat Tours run from the Ballycastle Terminal and Pier. Ballycastle is in the Glens of Antrim along the Ulster coast. Ballycastle is near Glenshesk. Ballycastle is served by Ulsterbus which is part of Translink. It is the sea Port for Rathlin Island across the Straits of Moyle and Campbelltown across the North Channel on the Mull of Kintyre in Argyll and Bute, which was the historic County of Argyllshire until 1975 in Scotland. Until 1975 the historic County of Argyllshire was replaced by Argyll and Bute which was part of Strathclyde Region from 1975 to 1996. Ballycastle as well as Rathlin Island are located within Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area in the historic County Antrim in Northern Ireland. The vessel was constructed by Arklow Marine Services of Ireland for the Department for Regional Development (now Department for Infrastructure) at a cost of £2.8m, and is operated by Rathlin Island Ferry Limited under a 10 year subsidised contract with the DFI. AMS also constructed the purpose-built passenger catamaran operating the Rathlin Island route, RATHLIN EXPRESS. SPIRIT OF RATHLIN is essentially an updated and modernised version of CANNA, the vessel she will replace. In advance of the introduction of the SPIRIT OF RATHLIN, a new harbour costing £1 million was built at Church Bay in Rathlin to accommodate the new vessel. This consisted of a new ferry ramp, berthing pier, car park area, fendering system, lighting and re-alignment of the road at Rathlin Island Harbour. Arklow is in County Wicklow in the Republic of Ireland. The Ferry takes about 45 minutes sailing time leaving Ballycastle with Fair Head on the right the Starboard as the ferry moves out to sea the coast wends it's way past Torr Head towards the rest of the Antrim Glens. On the left the Port can be seen the direction of Ballintoy onwards towards the Causeway and beyond to the Foyle. At the Starboard on the island is southern tip of Rathlin Island with Rue Lighthouse and on the Port is West Lighthouse. These Lighthouses and Sea Lights are run by Irish Lights, the Commissioners of Irish Lights. Near the end of the voyage the vessel enters Church Bay where the Harbour and Terminal are located. In the Haven is St Thomas's Church of Ireland. Well above there behind the trees is the Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception. The Rathlin Ferry at the Rathlin Island Terminal sometimes meets the Puffin Bus which runs to the West Lighthouse RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds).
