Today we are in Newburgh, New York. Newburgh is a small city in New York State located 60 miles north of New York City and 90 miles south of Albany. Newburgh is a small city of only 28,000 residents, a little less than 5 square miles in size but per capita wise it packs a powerful punch. It has been struggling with crime and other common urban problems for decades. Back in 2012 Neighborhood Scout ranked this tiny town as the 10th worst place to live in the United States and more dangerous than 95% of U.S. cities based on FBI crime Data. Today we drive through to see if today it fares any better or if things still looking bleak. Asides from crime and poverty, Newburgh has some good in it's past as this was home to the George Washington led Contintental Army, serving as their headquarters March 1782 until late 1783.
