NATO AVT team addressing MSC2020 on Hypersonic Operational Threats

Fielding of Hypersonic Weapon Systems like Hypersonic Glide Vehicles (HGV) or Hypersonic Cruise Missiles (HCM) by Russia and China pose a new and significant threat to NATO and NATO nations. A Specialist Team was co-sponsored by NATO’s Applied Vehicle Technology Panel (AVT), a subsidiary of the Science and Technology Organisation (STO), the Joint Air Power Competence Center (JAPCC) and the Competence Centre Surface Air and Missile Defence (CC SABMD), assembling a broad range of well-known scientists, engineers and military experts. The objective of the team was twofold, first to provide concise insides and recommendations to key decision makers and operators; second to compile a deep dive into technological challenges related to hypersonic platforms as well as to Hypersonic Weapon Systems in an operational environment to guide future efforts in those areas The video ‘Hypersonic Weapon Systems – a Game Changer’ explains the new challenge for NATO and provides comments by key military and political players like US General (ret) David Petraeus, the Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, Air Chief Marshal, Sir Christopher Peach and other.
