Studies for new missile systems are typically based on models of limited complexity, reflecting state of the art for the missile subsystems. This is also true for the propulsion, where procurement agencies, system providers and propulsion manufacturers mostly use own models to screen appropriate propulsion subsystem design. Different data-bases and different technical depth of the models tend to lead to non-consistent results for design and performance of a generic propulsion subsystem. A unified and commonly accepted model would be a valuable tool for consistent tactical studies within NATO and for the generation of realistic requirements for propulsion in a later development phase.
