The ill-fated DC3 Kaimai crash of flight 441 near Mt Ngatamahinerua was New Zealand's worst local air disaster. We hunt for the lost engines, canyoning up the treacherous Gordon Stream, discovering items likely not been seen since the army covered over the plane in 1964! See chapters & further info below. 3rd July 1963, 20 passengers and 3 crew members died near Mt Ngatamahinerua making this New Zealand's worst INTERNAL air disaster to date. Mt Erebus flight 901 was New Zealand's worst but that was not within New Zealand. It is our hope to recover the engine, to be used as a memorial at Tauranga airport, the location that flight 441 was destined for.
