Volta Region (or Volta) is one of Ghana's sixteen administrative regions, with Ho designated as its capital, an area of extraordinary scenic beauty bordered by the Volta lake to the east, Atlantic Ocean in the south, Togo to the west and the Oti region to the north. Its landscape of rolling hills and valleys, with rocky outcrops, lagoons, rivers and waterfalls. Mount Gemi (pronounced “geh-mee) is one of the tallest mountains in all of Ghana. As the nearby town of Amedzofe is already very high in altitude, the peak of the mountain is actually a short climb from town. At the very peak of the mountain is a tall cross made of iron erected by German missionaries in 1939. Attached on the cross is the remnant of a communication antenna used by the Germans during World War II. Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary is a traditional sacred grove conservation established in 1993 under the direction of a Peace Corps Volunteer as a community-based ecotourism project. Tafi Atome is the home of Mona and Patas monkeys. The sanctuary is located about 230 kilometers Northeast of the capital Accra and 43 kilometers south of Hohoe in the Volta region of Ghana. Wli Waterfall Ghana is the place to go if you want to experience the natural, serene, and mountainous side of Ghana. Cascading from a height of about 80 meters, Wli is the highest waterfall in Ghana. Locally pronounced as ‘vlee,’ these waterfalls mark the border between Ghana and neighbouring Togo. Wli Waterfall Ghana comprises of two distinct parts – the upper falls and the lower falls. While most are satisfied visiting the lower part, those with a zeal for adventure hike to the upper falls.
