Cristiano Rizzotto Vidal Pessôa, organist at the First United Methodist Church in Washington, NC, is a Graduate Sacred Music student at East Carolina University (ECU). The 11 AM Service is broadcast live each Sunday on 98.9 FM, WNBR Cristiano Rizzotto (23) worked as the organist at the Benedictine Abbey of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, until July 2011. Recorded at a solo recital at the National City Christian Church, in Washington, DC. Friday, August 31, 2012 – 12:15 PM. "Tomorrow's pipe organ recital at 12:15pm is set to be an exciting one with young Brazilian organist, Cristiano Rizzotto, on the organ bench. Born, raised, and educated in Rio de Janeiro, Mr. Rizzotto is now a masters degree candidate in organ performance at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina -- one of North Carolina's smaller state universities which boasts an absolutely top-notch organ and choral department. Cristiano is quickly making a name for himself here in the United States and in addition to his appearance at National City he has a fair number of recital bookings in the coming months. It's a wonderful honor to be featuring another of the many "up and coming" young organists! Mr. Rizzotto's program tomorrow opens and closes with a true pipe organ "bang"! The opening work is Jean Langlais' fiery "Hymne d'action de graces 'Te Deum'. A rarely heard suite of colorful variations by German composer Hugo Distler follows the Langlais, and the program continues with Dietrich Buxtehude's showy Prelude, Fugue and Chaconne in C Major, and a set of festive Noel variations by 17th century French composer Claude Balbastre. Eugene Gigout's famously fiendish Toccata In B minor closes the program. Start your Labor Day weekend off with the sound of NCCC's grand pipe organ in your ears! We hope to see you tomorrow at 12:15pm!!" http://www.nationalcitycc.org/sunday-... Hugo Distler — Suite from 30 Pieces, Op 18-I — Mvt. I—IV Distler was born in Nürnberg, in 1908. His early childhood was fraught with bad experiences. Under the guardianship of his maternal grandparents, he attended a Gymnasium and a music academy. When he was later unable to complete his studies at the Leipzig Conservatory, his teachers provided him with excellent recommendations, and Distler became the new organist at St. Jakobi in Lübeck in 1931. In this new environment, he became famous as a church musician, organist, conductor, and composer—the par excellence of German music. His other positions were in academia in Stuttgart and Berlin, and he eventually became a full professor. Due to the repression by the Nazi party, constantly being overworked, and the impact of his early childhood upon his psyche, Distler committed suicide on All Saints Day, November 1, 1942. 0:00 No.1 0:25 No.2 2:07 No.3 6:03 No.4 Cristiano Rizzotto (Kris), organ
