A Friday afternoon in mid April at the harbour in Galway City. It's low tide and the the powerful fresh waters of the River Corrib are rushing toward Galway Bay. Many birds take this opportunity to bathe, find food, find a mate and warm themselves in the bright sunshine of Spring. There are gulls here, ducks and terrestrial birds, all taking their spot in the shallows. Occasionally a ganet will dive straight into the deep channel and emerge a minute or two later with a small fish as it's reward. At lunchtime, many city workers and tourists sit on the harbour wall to enjoy this spectacle - and some of the larger gulls are prepared to sit within an arm's length of them hoping for a snack. on the opposite side of this large harbour, swans patrol the slipways where local boats are moored. Nearby, an old fishing boat is being repaired by fishermen taking advantage of the low tide to inspect the hull. Check out our Irelandscapes Facebook group (linked on our page and you are welcome to join) for photos and features on this and other locations. Across the entire county a superb variety of healthy wildlife can be observed from coast to lough, forest to mountain.
