Over several decades in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he earned a reputation for professionalism, accessibility, and a deep understanding of foreign-policy dynamics. A Fulbright Scholar with an MA in International Relations and National Security Studies from The George Washington University, Imran developed early expertise in U.S.–Pakistan relations. As Second Secretary at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C., he worked closely with institutions such as the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security. He later served as Director for the United States and as Director in the Foreign Minister’s Office, placing him at the center of key diplomatic decisions. His posting as ambassador to Oman marked a high point in his career, where he helped advance Pakistan’s ties with one of its most trusted partners in the Gulf. Another of his major assignments was his tenure as Consul General in Toronto—one of Pakistan’s busiest overseas missions—where he became widely respected within the diaspora. Known for his open-door approach, he was considered a “people’s diplomat,” ensuring that community members could reach him directly whenever they needed support. Before joining Pakistan’s Foreign Service, Imran taught political science at F.F. College for Boys, reflecting his long-standing connection to public service and academia. ************************************ Shakil Chaudhary is a journalist, author, and researcher. He is an alumnus of Government College, Lahore. He later studied International Relations at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and Media and Communications at the London School of Economics. Over the years, he has worked for several leading English-language newspapers and a few other organizations. He is the author of the critically acclaimed bilingual book Handbook of Functional English (Ferozsons), designed to help South Asians improve their English language skills.
