If you’re interested in a career that involves working outdoors, helping wildlife, or saving the environment, Natural Resources & Environmental Sciences (NRES) is the place for you. The NRES major offers four concentrations preparing students to address critical environmental issues facing our world. https://nres.illinois.edu. CONCENTRATIONS Ecosystem Stewardship and Restoration Ecology Learn how to manage and restore soil, watershed, wetland, forest, and prairie ecosystems. You’ll take courses in the areas of restoration, landscape, plant ecology, streams, wetlands, agroecosystems, invasive species, community ecology, and ecosystem science. Environmental Science and Management Explore the biological, chemical, and physical features of the environment. Our students learn to manage soil and water resources and become skilled in protecting and improving environmental quality. Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology Discover the ecology, conservation, and sustainable management of fish, wildlife species, and ecological communities. You’ll discover interactions among humans, wild animals, and their habitats. Human Dimensions of the Environment Study the economic, psychological, and sociological implications of managing natural resources and environmental challenges. You’ll complete advanced coursework in behavior-change science, environmental and conservation psychology, communications, social impact assessment, environmental policy, and environmental law.
